The story behind Horizon Springs
Horizon Springs began in January 2026 as a fresh start: the Cedarpoint County save had just been lost, and the One Tile at a Time format deserved a second run. The map is based on Daybreak by Derver.
Every episode opens with a mandate from the Board of Decision Makers, a fictional council that sets the goal and the budget for the next tile. The first settlement grew into an ore-mining district served by heavy rail.
Episode 3 broke with square grids entirely: farmland laid out after real North American agricultural regions, shaped by the mountain terrain. The coast followed with fishing harbours, a campground and a small beach hotel — plus fixes suggested by viewers.
With tile 5 the county turned urban: a terraformed rail bypass and a passenger station linking the old town to mid-rise growth. Episode 6 built the first real downtown, combining a Toronto-style road hierarchy with a Japanese-inspired elevated highway along the river.
That elevated highway is the bridge to what comes next. The series is paused while the channel relaunches around Japanese cities.
