TL;DR ·

Buses were piling up at the career institute, so Westfield's bus network is rebuilt from scratch: lines that stay within their district, stops away from crossings and busy roads, and one connector line between the parts of town. Then lane rules for a star-shaped junction and a small roundabout, high-rise offices with walkways, a garden plaza, campus perks — and a parking-lot experiment nobody uses.

What happens in this episode

Episode 13 added ore, moved the farms and pushed the career centre to two stars. Two clean-ups start this one. First, cemeteries: once you have crematoriums you can empty and delete them to save money. Check that no bodies are stored and no hearses are on the way first. Second, buses were piling up at the Pleasant Career Center, because too many lines ended there.

How it was built

One bus line per district

Every so often, when you add or restructure districts, it makes sense to replan the bus lines. People complain when stops move, but they won’t leave as long as new lines exist. Almost back to a vanilla state, the new network gives each district its own loop. Stops stay away from crossings and away from the main roads that bring traffic into town; that got me into trouble before. Walking distances in Cities: Skylines feel much longer than in SimCity 4, where you needed stops everywhere. I live within walking distance of subway stations myself, and convenience is everything.

A short connector line links the districts, with stops at the College of Liberal Arts, the stadium and the university. People don’t mind transferring, which surprised me. A subway would have been a necessity in SimCity 4. Here, enough alternatives keep traffic manageable. The forest will only ever see a rail line or at most a highway.

Star junction and roundabout rules

Star-shaped junctions where three roads meet are always a hassle. With Traffic Manager: no parking on main roads, stop signs, lane assignments, and at a small roundabout “left or right, never straight”, plus an upgrade to three lanes. Some drivers still seemed to ignore my stop signs.

Offices, a garden plaza and a school

Residential and commercial demand evened out. High-rise offices and commercial zones get a walkway from the start, sometimes with the Anarchy mod. A park with a floating café and picnic plaza and a community school round out the area.

Campus perks

The career institute’s fountain, a gymnasium and the arts buildings went in. Attractiveness rose, the campus is now “recognized”, and both universities offer free lunch and visiting scholars. Universities are never cheap.

The parking lot experiment

A parking-lot mod for the stadium didn’t work: nobody parked in it. If you know how to use it properly, let me know. That might be a job for the next episode.

FAQ

When can I delete cemeteries in Cities: Skylines?

Once you have crematoriums. Empty the cemetery first and check that no bodies are stored and no hearses are in use, then delete it to save upkeep.

Where should bus stops go?

Away from crossings and away from the main roads that bring traffic into town. Stops there block traffic. Cover every block within walking distance instead.

Do citizens mind changing bus lines?

They complain when stops move, but they don't move out as long as new lines replace the old ones — and they happily transfer between lines.
