TL;DR ·

A short housekeeping episode: Verville adds three train stations on its own local line and lets intercity trains stop at just one station, fixes lane management on the highway that came with the standard map, raises a bridge and road after terrain levelling caused a flood, adds a library to push the college toward three stars, and plants trees along the tracks against noise.

What happens in this episode

I didn’t have a big plan for this episode, just fixes. Incoming traffic piled up in a few places, and I wanted separate train lines for the city.

How it was built

New stations and intercity trains

Three more passenger stations went in during a timelapse. One thing I should have handled sooner: new stations allow intercity trains by default, so lots of incoming and outgoing trains stop at every one of them. I think it only makes sense to have one, maybe two stations with intercity stops. I usually pick the first one where the outside connection comes in. The rest are linked by a local line. Every train station needs water, so the pipes were extended.

The map’s own highway

This is a standard map that came with the game, unmodified, and still its lane management wasn’t done properly. Lanes now lead clearly to their exits, and there’s no lane switching until the first spot where it’s safe. Traffic flowed much better.

A flood

A building had flooding issues last time. Levelling the terrain next to it with a more natural brush caused a new flood on a road close to the river, and a bus got caught. The fix: raise the bridge and the road so the water drains away and stays out.

College and commerce

The college had enough students but not enough attractiveness, so another library went in, aiming for three stars next academic year. The education problem isn’t solved yet, but it’s much better. More greenery in the zoo, trees along the train line to reduce noise, and more commercial and office zones near the homes. The workforce is still short. I was also testing a new recording setup, so this one is short.

FAQ

Should every train station allow intercity trains?

No. New stations allow intercity trains by default, which floods them with through traffic. Allow intercity stops at one, maybe two stations — usually the first one where the outside connection comes in.

Why did my road flood after levelling terrain?

Lowering ground near a river lets water in. Raise the road and bridge, or level more carefully, and the water drains again.

Do trees along rail lines help?

They're decorative, but they also lower the noise level for homes next to the tracks.
