TL;DR ·

A slower, foundation-building episode: Verville buys all 25 standard tiles, adds Workshop parking lots and a Japanese parking garage that actually shows parked cars, completes a level-5 zoo, lays out a new residential area ahead of demand, adds crematoriums, saunas, a medical helicopter depot and lots of elementary and high schools, watches the Verville Spartans win their first match, and nears 90,000.

What happens in this episode

I never plan these episodes in advance. I play along, fix what comes up, and lay out ideas for later. The zoo and the new football stadium from episode 9 are ready, so the first goal is making sure match-day visitors can get into town without detours.

How it was built

All 25 tiles

A quick connection, waste facilities, water pipes, a fire station and a police station. Then, with plenty of money, Verville bought all 25 standard tiles, the whole area the vanilla game allows. A big airport would be interesting, but the space I have in mind is too tight.

Parking that works

Two parking lots from the Steam Workshop, and a Japanese parking garage that really works: you can see the cars parked inside. Why the vanilla game never had parking garages, I don’t understand. One standard garage got no visitors, so it may move next to the stadium.

The zoo and new homes

The zoo reached level 5, and the last attractions went in, though space is running out. More roads get trees to stop roadside parking, and students slowly return. A new residential district is laid out ahead of demand. I didn’t stick to 12 units here, so let’s see if that causes trouble. A new water tower went in too.

Crematoriums, saunas, schools

Why was there no residential demand at all? Maybe missing crematorium coverage, so more went in. Then saunas, which may help health even though this isn’t a cold region, and a medical helicopter depot near the stadium. The Verville Spartans, in black, won their first match. Education was the bigger issue: far too few elementary and high schools. With several more and a higher school budget, the education level started to rise.

An observatory

A grand mall next to the stadium, an observatory on a beautiful hilltop with fire towers around it (it can only be built once), parking bans and crosswalk rules at a jammed crossing, and new bus lines. I don’t build circle lines in both directions, because I don’t think it’s necessary. Freight trains still pile up on a single track. Verville nears 90,000: a slow episode, but needed for future growth.

FAQ

Does Cities: Skylines have parking garages?

Not in the vanilla game, which I find strange. A Japanese parking garage from the Steam Workshop worked in Verville — you can even see the parked cars inside.

How many tiles can you buy in Cities: Skylines?

25 standard tiles (5×5). Mods like 81 Tiles unlock the whole map.

Why is my education level low?

Usually too few elementary and high schools. Verville's citizens were largely uneducated until I added several of each and raised the school budget.
