TL;DR ·

A trial-and-error episode: Westfield adds a large warehouse with a second cargo train terminal so freight doesn't cross town, expands ore mining with a new grinding vessel while sparing the forest, roughs out and then smooths a highway interchange, lays out a mixed new district, and extends the amusement park over a road with a 12 m pedestrian bridge.

What happens in this episode

Reaching 32,000 in episode 22 unlocked a new tile. Public transport needs attention soon: Westfield only has buses, a passenger station and a cargo terminal, and no subway. The rule from the start still applies: don’t destroy too much of the forest. I expected this to be a trial-and-error episode, and it was.

How it was built

A warehouse and a second cargo terminal

All freight currently has to cross town to the one cargo terminal. A large warehouse took a few tries to fit: six units, then seven, then eight. A second cargo train terminal goes right across from it, set to commercial goods, with trees moved aside so it looks planned. The first freight train arrived quickly. Roads were upgraded for the trucks. Oak Ore Products reached level 3.

More ore

The ore area grows downhill, with a medium underground mine in the middle of the mountains and a massive new grinding vessel, aligned with Move It so as little forest as possible is lost.

An interchange

The lemonade factory may need repositioning for highway ramps. Nine metres is usually enough for an overpass. I rough out interchanges first and refine the alignment later, so they end up tight, natural-looking and convenient. A crematorium moved a few metres. Later the steep jump between heights was softened.

A new district

A high-rise centre with offices and commercial zones, low-rise around it, a school, a library, a doctor’s office and a pathway across the district. The existing bus line simply got another stop. The goal is 40,000 next.

The amusement park grows

Beachwood Park’s upgrade adds the House of Horrors and more rides. To extend the park across a road, a 12 m pedestrian bridge goes over it, placed with Anarchy and adjusted by hand, with a fence so nobody gets in without paying. A huge green park area went in nearby.

Campus and parking

The university got IT and engineering grants and a liberal arts café and fountain. Parking bans pushed visitors into the parking lot. The episode ends with the city growing in all directions.

FAQ

Why build a second cargo train terminal?

So freight from the production area doesn't have to cross town to reach the only existing terminal. Placing it right across from a large warehouse keeps the truck trips short.

How high does an overpass need to be?

Nine metres is usually enough for an overpass, unless the landscape around it demands something special.

How do you plan an interchange?

I rough it out first with simple ramps, then adjust heights, alignment and curves later so it's tight, natural-looking and leaves room for the city to grow.
