Verville adds a second freight rail connection through a tunnel, then builds Lafayette Land, a huge farm with fruit, crops, pastures, milking parlors and a slaughterhouse on one-way service roads. Highways get sound barriers and careful lane rules, a sudden loss of 30,000–40,000 citizens turns out to be sick residents from a bad water tower, flooding riverbanks get quay walls and a park, and the city reaches about 250,000.
What happens in this episode
Episode 16 brought the nature reserve, the ore specialisation and the first true high-rises. This time I wanted another farm, but not near downtown. Before that, the freight trains needed help again: the only freight exit was jammed.
How it was built
A second freight link
New tiles were bought, and a parallel track connects to another outside connection on the far side of the highway. It runs through a tunnel from the end of a bridge so it doesn’t waste space. Anarchy helped with the tight spots. A national road runs alongside the highway to a new farm district.
Lafayette Land
Lafayette Land is a huge farm with the main building in the centre, one-way service roads, maintenance buildings, workers’ barracks, fruit (apples, oranges, pears), greenhouses, two large crop fields for each crop, flour mills, grain silos, barns, cattle sheds, pastures with cows and sheep, a milking parlor and a slaughterhouse. Because of Anarchy, some buildings overlapped and had to move. It needed its own water and sewage connection, plus fire, police and healthcare, because accidents on farms can get ugly.
Ramps and sound barriers
My rule for exits: when one lane of a three-lane highway leaves, the mainline goes down to two lanes and the right lane is exit-only. On-ramps get their own lane to merge. Highways in town get upgraded to sound-barrier versions, which reset the lane rules, so I redid them. I build special ramps with regular roads because they behave differently.
Oak Grounds and an underpass
Lots of people walked across one area, so Oak Grounds park gives them a path, with cafés, restrooms and a trampoline park. I felt like I was micromanaging, but it helps. Buses piled up, so an underpass lets them reach the highway directly.
A health crisis
Suddenly Verville lost 30,000 to 40,000 citizens. People were sick, and the cause seemed to be a water tower. After a restart, removing it, adding a proper water outlet and lots of hospitals, citizens came back. A wrong outlet type had to be replaced.
More fixes
Another freight underpass and train station reroute trains away from the farm. Tree belts dampen noise. Too many buses (68 on one line) got cut to around 20. Big floods on the riverbank meant levelling, quay walls and a small park on top. A car even got swept away. New offices, more incinerators, and another outside rail connection followed. Verville reached about 250,000, but the train mess is far from solved. Happy Easter!

FAQ
How do you set lanes at a highway exit?
When one lane of a three-lane highway exits, reduce the mainline to two lanes after the exit and make the rightmost lane exit-only. Mirror it for on-ramps, so merging traffic gets its own space.
Why did my population suddenly drop?
In Verville a water tower was making people sick — citizens died or left. Removing it, adding hospitals and fixing the water brought them back.
How do you stop riverbank flooding?
Level the bank higher and use quay walls along the shore. A park on the raised bank looks nicer than a bare wall.
